If I ever want to see a happy smile, followed by the cutest deep chuckle from my daughter Elle, all I have to do is feed her this delicious pineapple and avocado mix! I also get the cutest puckered lips with her first bite of the sweet pineapple.
The chef in me is always struggling with the urge to simply use bananas to sweeten up every puree. I figured since I love pineapple, Elle would too. Pineapple is a great source of Vitamin C and is also the only fruit with the enzyme bromeliad, which can reduce joint pain, inflammation and a lot of other related symptoms.
I then got to thinking that I could add a healthy fat, like avocado, to the pineapple. Avocado is a great and functional fruit for babies. When I am on-the-go and haven’t prepared any purees for Elle, I just grab a spoon and throw an avocado in my bag. And when Elle is hungry, I simply peal the rind off, scrap the avocado flesh right onto the spoon, and feed her. Elle loves it! And we all know that avocados are a great first food. Avocado’s texture is smooth and this “good fat” is great for babies’ brain and physical development. So, this may seem like a very boring puree option, but in hindsight, you are giving your baby just what he or she needs.
