Have you had hominy? Have you ever heard of hominy? They are these deliciously puffy and chewy corn kernels with a unique taste. You may have had them in foods like the hearty Mexican stew known as posole or other soups, cheesy casseroles, and sometimes in grits. I absolutely adore hominy!
I thought it would be neat to add this puffy corn to one of my daughter’s purees. I’ve got so many memories of hominy—growing up in the south, we had hominy in so many dishes and I was thrilled that she not only enjoyed the puree, but ate the hominy on their own, popping them like candy!
You can find hominy in cans ready to eat, or dried (simply cook like you would dried beans.)
Hominy, Chicken, and Green Bean Puree
Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp canned or cooked hominy
- 2 Tbsp chicken
- 5-6 green beans
Directions
- Wash and snip off the ends of the green beans.
- Steam in the Baby Bullet Steamer on setting #4 until tender.
- Add all ingredients to your Baby Bullet with 1-2 Tbsp of water and blend, until you reach a smooth consistency.
If your little one can comfortably chew, let her enjoy some of the hominy all on its own! It’s the perfect finger food and its texture is unique and fun for new palates. Corn is not a major allergen, but can still cause allergies, so be sure that corn is safe in your little one’s diet.
