Pears are gentle on a baby’s tummy and easy to digest. If your baby is suffering from reflux and or constipation this is perfect first food. Starting your 4-6 month old baby on pears is a great beginning in their first food journey.

When feeding any new first foods to your baby make sure you just feed that one type of food for 3 days straight. If you do not see any signs of allergies or rashes around the mouth or hands after 3 days, then you know your baby is clear of an allergy to that food. But it’s always good to consult your doctor when starting firsts foods.

Pears are high in fiber, potassium, and Vitamin C. When getting ready to eat a pear you want to make sure it is ripe. A trick to helping it ripen is leave the pear on the counter or in a brown bag for a day or two. I also like steaming my pear in the Baby Bullet Steamer. This will insure you will be able to blend all of the fruit very smoothly. If you are still nursing, make sure to save your breast milk for when you start making these purees. Adding your breast milk will smooth out the recipes and add a bonus of vitamins – unlike using just water. But either method works just fine.

Pears are listed as a dirty dozen which are foods that are highly contaminated with pesticides – purchasing organic is a personal, but smart choice.

Pear Puree

Ingredients

  • 2-3 organic pears (washed, peeled, cut)
  • 1-2 tbsp water or breast milk

Instructions

  1. First, wash and peel the pear.
  2. Cut into slices.
  3. In the Baby Bullet Steamer add the pears and set on setting 5.
  4. Add the soft pears to the Baby Bullet and blend. If the puree seems thick, add the water or breast milk to help make a very smooth consistency.
  5. Feed to baby.
  6. Store in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
